About This Product
Vanillin (CAS 121-33-5), 3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, is the principal aroma compound of vanilla. It comes as a white powder at 99% purity by HPLC, dissolving in hot water, glycerin and alcohol but not readily in cold water or vegetable oils, and keeps for 2 years under proper storage. Its largest use is as a flavouring for foods and beverages. In perfumes and creams it adds a sweet, warm base note, and in other daily-chemical products it is used to adjust and soften the overall aroma. Whether a lot is synthetic or from a natural source is confirmed on enquiry; under UK and EU flavouring rules, only vanillin obtained from natural source material by permitted processes may be labelled as natural. The food purity standard it meets is given on request, and buyers should confirm suitability for their food, beverage or cosmetic product. Vanillin oxidises in air and discolours in contact with alkaline materials, so keep containers closed.
