    Stannous Octoate (Tin Catalyst T-9)

Stannous Octoate (Tin Catalyst T-9) – Specialty chemicals product from Bio Green Chem

    About This Product

Stannous octoate, the tin(II) salt of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, CAS 301-10-0, is supplied as a light yellow liquid. Known throughout the foam industry as catalyst T-9, it is a tin(II) rather than tin(IV) compound, which is what distinguishes its behaviour. In flexible slabstock foam two reactions compete: the blowing reaction between isocyanate and water, which generates the carbon dioxide that expands the foam, and the gelling reaction between isocyanate and polyol, which builds the polymer strength that holds the expanded structure. If gelling runs ahead the foam will not rise; if blowing runs ahead the cells rupture and the foam collapses. T-9 is the classic gelation catalyst used to balance that race, normally alongside an amine blowing catalyst. Declared applications are polyurethane flexible foam, furniture and automotive seating, polyurethane coatings, elastomers, room-temperature-curing silicone rubber catalyst, and the manufacture of medical supplies. Supplied in 25 kg and 250 kg drums. Note that tin(II) octoate is hydrolytically sensitive and is normally stored sealed and used promptly once opened.
