    Silk Powder

Silk Powder – Specialty chemicals product from Bio Green Chem

    About This Product

Silk powder is produced by degumming silk to remove sericin, then micronising the remaining fibroin into an ultrafine powder. It carries the INCI name Silk Powder with CAS numbers 9007-76-5 and 9009-99-8, and unlike the hydrolysed grades it is not water-soluble, because the protein chains are left intact. Being insoluble is what defines its function. The hydrolysed silk materials dissolve and act chemically, binding water or forming films. Silk powder instead stays as discrete particles and works through physics. Its particles are small, roughly spherical and translucent, so they scatter incident light diffusely rather than reflecting it directly; that soft-focus effect visually blurs fine lines, pores and surface irregularities without any optical brightener or pigment. The same particles roll against one another under pressure, giving the dry, slippery, almost frictionless feel that powder formulators describe as silky, and they absorb sebum and moisture, extending wear in colour cosmetics. It is also naturally white with good coverage, so it functions as a gentle filler and texturiser. It is used in pressed and loose powders, foundations and primers, colour cosmetics, deodorants and in soft-focus skin care. Bio Green Chem supplies silk powder to specification on particle size, whiteness, moisture, ash, residual sericin, bulk density and microbiology.
