They are different species with different scent profiles, and the floral waxes reflect that. R. centifolia, the rose de mai or cabbage rose grown chiefly in Grasse and Morocco, gives a softer, honeyed, slightly green character. R. damascena, the Damask rose of Bulgaria and Turkey, is sharper and more classically rosy. They are not interchangeable where the scent is part of the brief.

Two things at once. It is a hard wax melting at 62 to 68 degrees Celsius, so at a few percent it contributes structure and a smooth set to an anhydrous base. And it carries a proportion of the rose's own volatiles bound in the wax matrix, giving a soft, quiet rose character that warms out with body heat rather than projecting.

Because it comes from the rose absolute production stream rather than being made on demand. Output is tied to how much absolute is produced, which in turn depends on the rose harvest, and both quantity and character vary year to year. Supply should be confirmed and, where continuity matters, contracted against a specific harvest.

Only partially. Its aroma is genuine but dilute and subtle compared with rose absolute or a rose fragrance accord, so it is generally used to provide botanical authenticity and structure alongside, rather than instead of, a fragrance addition. Where the objective is a strong rose scent, a fragrance or absolute will be more effective and far more economical.
