About This Product
This microencapsulated phase change material holds an n-octadecane core, about 85% by weight, inside a polyacrylate shell of about 15%. The capsules melt at 29.0 ± 1.5 °C with an enthalpy of 180.0 J/g, both measured by DSC, and in powder form the material stays free-flowing through the phase change. The liquid form is an anionic, milky white dispersion at 30 ± 1% solids and pH 6-8; powder and granules are also offered. The capsules absorb heat as their core melts and release it as the core freezes again, which buffers temperature changes around the transition point. They are applied as finishes on textiles and fibres, built into memory foam, and mixed into plasters, boards and other building materials for passive temperature control. Whether the enthalpy refers to dry capsules or to the dispersion, the capsule size, the values for the powder and granular forms and the complete compatibility statement are confirmed on enquiry. The liquid form is stated to be stable from pH 3 to 8; store it at normal temperature, never below 10 °C, and do not let it freeze. Decomposition starts at about 230 °C, which sets the ceiling for processing temperatures.
