    Musk Ketone

    About This Product

Musk ketone (CAS 81-14-1, EINECS 201-328-9), also called ketone musk, is a synthetic nitro musk. It is offered as a white-yellow powder with a musk odour; assay, melting point and the full specification are confirmed on enquiry. Perfumers use it mainly as a fixative: it slows the evaporation of lighter materials in a blend and adds a warm, sweet musk to oriental and sweet accords. It goes into perfume compounds, fancy soaps and laundry detergent fragrances, and small additions mask raw-material odours in plastic and rubber goods. Its use in cosmetic products is restricted in the UK and the EU. Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation sets a maximum concentration for each type of product and does not allow it in oral-care products, and IFRA standards restrict it as well. Buyers should check the limit that applies to each finished product and review the safety data sheet before handling.
