Menthol is a cyclic terpene alcohol, the compound behind the cooling sensation and minty odour of peppermint and corn mint. The material is supplied as crystals under CAS 89-78-1 with a stated purity of 99.99%; it should be stored in a cool, dry place and has a shelf life of 2 years. Being highly concentrated, menthol is needed only in small amounts in a finished product.
