Citrus Aurantium Botanical Extract

About This Product
Citrus aurantium botanical extract is prepared from the bitter orange, also called Seville or sour orange, and is supplied standardised in a carrier such as glycerine or glycol for direct formulation use. The species is unusual in yielding several commercially distinct materials from different parts of the same tree, and the part must therefore be stated on any specification. The blossom gives neroli and orange flower water, prized in fine fragrance and valued in skin care for a soft, calming floral character. The leaves and twigs give petitgrain, greener and sharper. The peel gives bitter orange oil, and the immature fruit is the source of synephrine-containing extracts used in supplements. For cosmetic work the flower and peel extracts are the relevant grades, carrying flavonoids including hesperidin and naringin, which are associated with antioxidant activity. One practical caution applies to peel-derived material: citrus peel extracts can contain furocoumarins that are phototoxic on skin exposed to sunlight, so bergapten-free or furocoumarin-reduced grades are specified for leave-on products. It is used in facial and body skin care, toners and floral waters, hair care, natural fragrance and in aromatherapy products. Bio Green Chem supplies citrus aurantium extract to specification on plant part, carrier and active ratio, furocoumarin content, appearance, odour, pH and microbiology.
