3-O-Ethyl ascorbic acid is L-ascorbic acid with an ethyl ether on the hydroxyl group at the 3-position of the ring: CAS 86404-04-8, EC 617-849-3, formula C8H12O6 and molecular weight 204.18. The powder is fine and white, and keeps for 24 months when stored cool, dry, dark and tightly sealed. The data sheet carries identity data only, so assay and test limits are confirmed on enquiry. It is used in skin-care serums, essences, creams, lotions and masks, where it blends evenly into water-based and emulsion bases. It is sold for cosmetic formulation alone, not for foods or supplements, for which it has no authorisation in the UK or EU.
