Gardenia Jasminoides Botanical Extract

About This Product
Gardenia jasminoides botanical extract is prepared from the flowers or fruit of the cape jasmine, cultivated across China, Japan and Southeast Asia. It is standardised and supplied in a carrier such as glycerine or glycol for direct addition to a formulation. The plant is unusual in serving two quite separate markets from different parts. The flower extract is used in skin care and natural fragrance for its floral character and its phenolic content. The fruit is the source of crocin and geniposide, and it is the industrial origin of gardenia yellow and gardenia blue, natural colourants produced by reacting geniposide with amino acids. Those colourants matter commercially because they provide a plant-derived blue, one of the hardest shades to obtain naturally, and they are used where synthetic dyes are restricted or unwanted. In cosmetic use the extract is valued for antioxidant-associated constituents and for its traditional standing in East Asian skin care. Typical use is 0.1 to 5 percent in the water phase, added during cool-down. It is used in facial skin care and serums, masks, hair care, natural fragrance, and as a source material for natural colourants. Bio Green Chem supplies gardenia extract to specification on plant part and carrier ratio, appearance, colour, odour, pH, solubility and microbiology.
