About This Product
Hexagonal boron nitride, sometimes called white graphite, is a layered ceramic of boron and nitrogen that forms fine flake-shaped crystals (CAS 10043-11-5). Its density is 2.29 g/cm³, its BN purity 99% and its metallic impurities 0.2% or less. Five grades are listed, differing in particle size (1–2 μm up to 15–20 μm), specific surface area (2–5 up to about 15 m²/g) and oxygen, carbon and boron oxide content. Boron nitride pairs high thermal conductivity with electrical insulation and keeps its lubricity at high temperature. It serves as a release agent in metal forming and a lubricant for metal drawing, as a high-temperature solid lubricant and extrusion anti-wear additive, as an anti-oxidation additive in refractories, and as an additive to plastics and resins, including thermally conductive compounds and fillers for semiconductor and LED packaging. It is also used in heat-shielding materials. Select the grade by particle size and surface area; the two finest grades have the highest oxygen and boron oxide contents. These are micron-sized platelet grades, not a nanomaterial. Confirm the grade, pack size and bulk density before ordering, and review the hazard information on the safety data sheet.
