Dibutyltin Dichloride

About This Product
Dibutyltin dichloride, CAS 683-18-1, is supplied as a white needle-shaped crystal. It is the central intermediate of butyltin chemistry: dibutyltin dilaurate, dibutyltin maleate and dibutyltin oxide are all made from it. Two further uses are declared. It serves as an intermediate in marine antifouling biological compounds, and it is used to prepare fungicides, preservatives and biological expellants, reflecting the biocidal activity that organotin compounds are known for and which is also the reason they are tightly regulated in those applications. The fourth use is less obvious and worth noting: in the modification of synthetic rubbers, DBTD-98 acts as a reactive process additive that improves the solubility of soot black additives in the compound, so carbon black disperses more evenly. Packed 1200 kg IBC tote (21,600 kg per 20-foot container) or 250 kg drum (20,000 kg per container).
