Dibutyltin Oxide (DBTO)

About This Product
Dibutyltin oxide, CAS 818-08-6, is supplied as a white powder in 25 kg paper drums. It is the oxide from which the dibutyltin ester stabilisers and catalysts are prepared. The supplier lists it as the intermediate used in producing dibutyltin laurate, dibutyltin maleate and dibutyltin monobutyl maleate, and describes it as one of the intermediates for synthesising organotin generally. Buying the oxide gives a compounder control over which ligand is attached and in what ratio. Its second declared application is in SPC self-polishing marine antifouling coatings, where controlled hydrolysis at the paint surface continuously renews the active layer as the hull moves through water. Note that organotin antifouling is subject to international restriction, and use must be confirmed against the regulations applying to the vessel and route.
