Polystyrene (CAS 9003-53-6) in pellet form, described as expansible polystyrene (EPS) and coloured oyster white. The pellets are intended for extrusion processing and are listed for general-purpose and engineering plastics. Foamed polystyrene is made into thermal insulation boards for construction and for protective packaging, and into acoustic panels that cut noise in buildings, vehicles and industrial equipment. No technical values are stated, so the specification (density, pellet or bead size, melt flow rate, residual styrene and blowing agent content) and the packing are confirmed on enquiry. Confirm before ordering whether the material is virgin expandable beads or recycled polystyrene regranulate: a recycled grade should not be used for food packaging unless it comes from a recycling process permitted for food contact. Expandable beads that still contain a blowing agent give off flammable vapour and are regulated as dangerous goods in transport.
