Methyl Tin Mercaptide for CPVC

DX-950 is a methyl tin mercaptide heat stabiliser formulated specifically for chlorinated polyvinyl chloride. CPVC is PVC that has been post-chlorinated to raise chlorine content from about 57% to 63-69%, which lifts the heat distortion temperature enough for hot-water pipework but also raises the processing window close to the polymer's decomposition temperature. That narrow window is the whole problem a CPVC stabiliser has to solve. There is less thermal headroom between the temperature at which the compound will flow and the temperature at which it begins to lose hydrogen chloride, so the stabiliser must suppress dehydrochlorination fast and keep suppressing it through a longer residence time than a rigid PVC profile would ever see. A general-purpose PVC grade run in CPVC typically shows early yellowing and poor long-term hold. DX-950 is supplied both as a clear liquid, packed into iron or plastic drum, IBC tote or customised packaging, and as a powder in 25 kg bags. Its declared application is environmental CPVC pipe and fittings.
