    About This Product

3-Iodooxetane has the formula C3H5IO, molecular weight 184.0 and CAS number 26272-85-5. It is a colourless to yellow transparent liquid: a four-membered cyclic ether carrying an iodine atom on the carbon opposite the oxygen. Oxetanes became a staple of medicinal chemistry once it was shown that an oxetane ring can stand in for a gem-dimethyl group or a carbonyl while raising aqueous solubility, lowering lipophilicity, reducing the basicity of a neighbouring amine and resisting metabolic attack. 3-Iodooxetane is one of the most direct ways to attach the ring. The carbon–iodine bond serves as an alkylating agent for amines, phenols and thiols, and as a partner in nickel-catalysed and photoredox cross-couplings that join the oxetane directly to aromatic and heteroaromatic rings. Iodides slowly release iodine in light, which is why the liquid may be colourless or yellow, and it should be stored cool, dark and closed; identity is confirmed by proton NMR and purity is 98 percent minimum. It is used as a building block in pharmaceutical discovery and development, in cross-coupling and alkylation chemistry, and in the manufacture of oxetane-containing intermediates. Bio Green Chem supplies 3-iodooxetane at 98 percent minimum to specification on appearance, identity by 1H-NMR and purity, in drums, with pack size confirmed with the quotation.
