Monobutyltin Trichloride

About This Product
Monobutyltin trichloride, CAS 1118-46-3, is a light amber clear liquid carrying a single butyl group and three chlorines on tin. Its largest single application is glass coating. Glass containers are given a hot-end coating of tin oxide as they leave the forming machine, deposited by pyrolysis of an organotin precursor; the resulting layer bonds a cold-end lubricant and dramatically improves the scratch resistance and burst strength of the finished container. Beer bottles, seasoning bottles, cosmetics bottles and medical containers are all listed, and glass containers generally. It is also used to produce butyltin heat stabilisers, as a catalyst and intermediate for marine antifouling biological compounds, and in fungicides and preservatives. Packed 1200 kg IBC tote (21,600 kg per 20-foot container) or 250 kg drum (20,000 kg per container).
