Hydrogenated castor oil is made by hydrogenating refined castor oil to produce a solid, wax-like triglyceride material. It combines a more saturated fatty-acid structure with the hydroxyl functionality characteristic of the castor family. Also known as castor wax, it is commonly supplied as cream-to-white hard, brittle flakes or powder and is insoluble in water. The material contributes structure and thickening in oil-and-wax systems, including selected personal-care formulations. It is also used in coatings, lubricants and other industrial blends where the chosen grade suits the process. Its solid form and melting behaviour distinguish it from liquid castor oil, while the absence of polyethylene-glycol modification distinguishes it from PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil. Define the required melt behaviour, hydroxyl and acid values, physical form and colour with the source. Evaluate incorporation temperature, cooling conditions and compatibility in the complete blend. A cosmetic application requires documentation and quality limits appropriate to that application, even when an industrial material shares the same generic name.
