About This Product

A heat-modified compound of polylactic acid and polybutylene adipate terephthalate, pelletised for sheet extrusion and forming. This is the thermoforming counterpart to the hot-use injection compound: the same 80C rating and microwave suitability, formulated instead for sheet extrusion and forming. Being a compounded blend, it carries no CAS number of its own. In a formed sheet the temperature rating has to be built during forming, and the two routes get there by different means. An injection tool holds the part under pressure while it crystallises; a thermoformer has only the heated sheet, the tool surface and the dwell before the part is stripped, so mould temperature and the time the formed wall spends against it are what convert an amorphous sheet into a heat-set tray that will not relax back towards flat when it is filled hot or reheated. Dwell is bought at the cost of cycle time, which is the trade the line settles. It is the grade for a ready meal tray, where the pack is filled hot or reheated by the consumer. It is supplied FDA compliant for food contact. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line. We do not produce finished articles. It is used in hot food trays, ready meal packaging and reheatable containers.
