About This Product

A polylactic acid based compound supplied as a pellet for thin-wall injection moulding. The base polyester gives the rigidity and the dry, hard surface a plate needs, and the compound is set at a melt viscosity suited to long, thin cavities rather than to thick sections. It is biodegradable at end of life. A plate or a bowl is a large, thin part, which makes flow length the governing constraint: the melt has to reach the far edge of the cavity before it freezes. As the melt enters, the layer touching the cold steel freezes at once and the rest must flow through the shrinking channel between the two skins, so the pressure demanded climbs faster than the distance travelled and the part short-shots well before the theoretical fill volume. The obvious remedy is also the problem, since the shorter chains that flow easily are the chains that carry less load. This grade is formulated for that flow behaviour while keeping the rigidity a plate needs when loaded with food. Supplied FDA compliant for food contact. Where the item will hold hot food, specify the heat-resistant container grade instead. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line. We do not produce finished articles. It is used in disposable plates and bowls, in event and catering tableware and in foodservice.
