DX-590 is a compound stabiliser system: calcium and zinc carboxylates and an organotin component pre-blended with the co-stabilisers and lubricants a pipe formulation needs, supplied as a white granule rather than as separate liquid and powder additions. The rationale is that calcium-zinc and tin chemistries fail in different ways and can cover for each other. Zinc soaps substitute labile chlorines efficiently but generate zinc chloride, which is itself a powerful Lewis-acid catalyst for dehydrochlorination; once the zinc is consumed a calcium-zinc system suffers sudden catastrophic blackening, the classic zinc burn. Calcium soaps and organic co-stabilisers exist largely to soak up that zinc chloride and delay the crash. Adding tin extends the long-term hold beyond what the mixed metal system alone sustains. Presenting it as a granule rather than a powder blend also removes dust handling and the weighing errors that come with dosing several minor components separately. Declared applications are PVC-M high impact pipe, UPVC drinking water pipe, drainage pipe, electrical conduit, communication pipe, corrugated and flat wall pipe, grid pipe and rigid sealing strip.
