Chlorinated polyethylene, CAS 63231-66-3, is produced by chlorinating high density polyethylene to around 35% chlorine, which destroys its crystallinity and converts it into a rubbery, saturated elastomer. Grade 135A denotes that chlorine level and is the most widely used grade for plastics impact modification. Unlike the core-shell modifiers it is not a discrete particle but a polymer that forms a co-continuous elastomeric network through the PVC matrix during processing. That network absorbs impact energy, and because the polymer backbone is saturated it does not suffer the ultraviolet ageing that limits MBS outdoors. Its two practical advantages are cost and filler tolerance. The supplier notes it is designed where superior impact strength, good low-temperature property and high filler acceptance are required, which is what makes it the standard choice for heavily filled profile and pipe. Declared application fields are PVC door and window profiles, siding, sheet, fence, pipe and electrical conduit. Supplied as a white free-flowing powder in 25 kg PP woven bags.
