Cold Use Lunch Box and Tray Thermoforming Compound (PLA/PBAT, FDA)

About This Product

A melt-compounded blend of polylactic acid and polybutylene adipate terephthalate, pelletised for extrusion into sheet and forming. PLA sets the stiffness and clarity of the formed wall, PBAT keeps it from cracking at folds and corners, and the compound is built for extensional flow in forming rather than for flow into a tool. It is supplied FDA compliant for food contact. Thermoforming is governed by how evenly the sheet draws when heated. A grade that sags or thins at the corners produces trays with weak points wherever the draw ratio is highest. What decides this is melt strength in the forming window: a polymer whose resistance to stretching rises as it is stretched stiffens wherever the wall thins and pushes the deformation back into thicker areas, whereas one that softens as it draws concentrates all further stretching into the point that thinned first. Unmodified PLA has little margin there. This compound is formulated for a controlled, even draw. Supplied FDA compliant for cold and chilled use. For hot food or microwave reheating, use the heat-resistant thermoforming grade. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line. We do not produce finished articles. It is used in lunch boxes and food trays, chilled food packaging and thermoformed tableware.
