About This Product

A pellet compound of polylactic acid and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) for blown film and subsequent lamination. The composition is weighted toward the flexible copolyester, which gives a low flexural modulus and a broad softening range, while the PLA fraction holds the melt strength needed to run a thin, pinhole-free web. A hygiene backsheet has to be liquid-tight, soft against skin, quiet in use and able to be laminated to a nonwoven. Those requirements pull against each other, which is why the backsheet is a formulated compound rather than a commodity film. Softness and noise are one property seen twice, because a film crackles when a stiff web stores elastic energy and releases it abruptly as it buckles. Both improve as the web is thinned, but hydrostatic head moves the other way, since head depends on an unbroken wall and thinning raises the chance of a pinhole. This grade is made for that layer in a biodegradable system, and for the lamination step that bonds it to the nonwoven outer. Softness, noise and hydrostatic head are set against the product construction. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line. We do not produce finished articles. It is used in absorbent hygiene products, in nonwoven lamination and in medical and hygiene film.
