About This Product
This polyethylene terephthalate resin (CAS 25038-59-9) is specified for bottle making in three grades with intrinsic viscosities of 0.800, 0.840 and 0.860 dL/g, each ± 0.020. All three limit acetaldehyde to 1.0 µg/g, carboxyl end groups to 35 mmol/kg, moisture to 0.2% and ash to 0.08%, at a density of 1.40 ± 0.01 g/cm³; the minimum melting point rises from 245 °C to 249 °C across the grades. Intrinsic viscosity is matched to the container. The 0.800 grade is for water bottles and PET sheet, while the 0.840 and 0.860 grades suit carbonated soft drink bottles; grades for edible oil and hot-fill bottles are also described at viscosities outside the table and are confirmed on enquiry. Test methods are not stated, and the 0.860 grade has a lower colour L limit (70 rather than 80), so agree methods and colour against a certificate of analysis. The specification does not state food-contact compliance: for bottles that will hold food or drink, ask for a declaration of compliance for the grade under the plastics food-contact rules that apply in Great Britain and the EU. As with any PET, the resin is dried before preform moulding or sheet extrusion.
