About This Product
L-Ergothioneine (CAS 497-30-3) is the betaine of thiohistidine, a small sulfur-bearing relative of the amino acid histidine. It is supplied as a white powder, 95% of which passes 80 mesh, and carries a stated purity of 99%; ash and loss on drying may each reach 5.0% at most. For heavy metals the ceiling is 10 ppm in total, and each of arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury is held to 2 ppm or less. Cosmetic chemists add it to leave-on skin care as an antioxidant ingredient, chiefly in face creams, lotions, serums and gel textures. Before supply, confirm the purity together with the assay method that supports it, and request microbiological limits, which the present specification omits. Food and food-supplement use falls outside this listing: L-ergothioneine is a novel food in the UK and EU and may go into food only to the authorised specification and conditions of use. Trial the powder in your own formula before committing to volume.
