About This Product

A heat-modified compound of polylactic acid and polybutylene adipate terephthalate, supplied as pellets for injection moulding. The PLA fraction is nucleated so that it crystallises in the tool, which is what carries the temperature rating; the PBAT fraction keeps the moulded wall tough enough to handle. It is supplied FDA compliant for food contact. Hot food packaging has two thermal loads: the food going in hot, and reheating in a microwave. This grade is rated to 80C and formulated for microwave use, which is what makes it usable for a ready meal rather than only a cold pack. The two loads are not equivalent. Hot filling holds the wall at the temperature of the food while the pack cools, so creep under the load of the contents is the concern; microwave heating is dielectric and develops in the food rather than in the polymer, so the wall is heated from the inside by conduction and steam, while fatty or sugary regions run hotter than the water around them. The temperature rating applies to the container; any film lidding is specified separately. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line. We do not produce finished articles.
