Food Contact 3D Printing Filament Compound (PLA, FDA)

About This Product

This grade is a polylactic acid compound supplied as a pellet compound for extrusion into 3D printing filament, and supplied FDA compliant for food contact. PLA is an aliphatic polyester polymerised from lactide derived from fermented plant sugars, and it prints at low temperature without a heated chamber, which is why it is the default resin for printed kitchen items. Most 3D printing filament carries no food-contact documentation, which leaves printed kitchen items and food moulds in an unverified position regardless of what the polymer is: nothing in the chain establishes what colourants, processing aids or regrind the filament actually contains. This grade is supplied FDA compliant so the filament producer can document the material, closing that gap at the resin stage. Note that food safety of a printed article also depends on the print itself: a fused-filament part is built from stacked extrudate, and layer lines harbour bacteria because they are fine crevices that resist both cleaning and drying, so surface finish and cleaning regime matter as much as the resin. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line; we do not produce finished articles. It is used in food contact filament, kitchen and food moulds and filament manufacture.
