Why does evaporation rate matter so much in a coating?
Because it determines film quality. A solvent that flashes off too fast traps bubbles, causes blushing in humid conditions and leaves the resin unable to flow, so brush marks and orange peel are locked in. One that lingers too long leaves the film soft and vulnerable to dirt pickup and damage. Formulators blend solvents along the evaporation ladder to control the whole drying sequence.

Is EGP classified as a reproductive toxicant?
No. Like the butyl homologue, its longer alkyl chain means it is not metabolised by the route that produces the harmful alkoxyacetic acids associated with the methyl and ethyl members of the ethylene series, so it does not carry that classification. Its own classification should still be confirmed for the destination market and appropriate handling controls applied.

What is EGP used for?
Coatings and printing inks, industrial and institutional cleaners, coupling and levelling applications, and as a chemical intermediate. Its combination of good water miscibility with useful oil solvency suits it to water-based systems that must nonetheless dissolve organic soil or resin.
