About This Product
This polishing powder is a mixed rare-earth oxide in which cerium dioxide (CeO2, CAS 1306-38-3) is the main component, rather than pure cerium oxide. Total rare-earth oxide (TREO) is 92% in the three finer grades and 90% in the three coarser ones, with fluorine at 2-3% and 3-5% respectively. Grades are defined by median particle size: D50 0.4-0.6, 0.6-0.9, 1.1-1.4, 1.8-2.1, 2.8-3.3 and 3.8-4.3 µm. The powder is pale yellow to yellow-brown. The 0.4-0.6 µm grade gives a fine finish on blue glass, quartz, glass-ceramics and fused quartz, and the 0.6-0.9 µm grade is for end polishing of optical parts. The 1.1-1.4 µm grade does the first polish on TFT display glass and soft glass lenses, while 1.8-2.1 µm is a fast general-purpose powder for medium-precision flat and spherical parts. The 2.8-3.3 µm grade suits phone cover plates and quartz glass, and 3.8-4.3 µm works on hard glass. The CAS number, formula and molecular weight given belong to cerium dioxide, so check which identifiers apply on the safety data sheet for this fluorine-containing mixture. Choose the grade by D50 and the finish required, and settle the packing, 25 kg or 50 kg drums or 20 kg barrels, when ordering.
