About This Product
Calcium acetate, Ca(C2H3O2)2 with CAS number 62-54-4, is a white, strongly hygroscopic powder with a faint acetic odour, freely soluble in water. It is used in three unrelated ways that share no common mechanism. In concrete it accelerates setting, which is useful in cold-weather placement and precast work where turnaround time governs mould utilisation, and unlike calcium chloride it introduces no chloride, so it can be used with reinforced and prestressed concrete where chloride would corrode the steel. In gelled fuel manufacture a saturated aqueous solution added to ethanol forms a stiff, self-supporting gel almost instantly, because the salt is soluble in water but not in alcohol and its precipitation traps the liquid; that gel is the fuel in chafing dish and camping burners. In effluent and process chemistry it precipitates phosphate and fluoride as insoluble calcium salts. It is also used as a stabiliser and buffer, and in veterinary and pharmaceutical applications as a phosphate binder. It is used in concrete acceleration, gelled alcohol fuels, phosphate and fluoride precipitation, petroleum drilling, textile dyeing and as a buffer. Bio Green Chem supplies calcium acetate to specification on assay, free acid and alkali, moisture, chloride, fluoride and heavy metals.
