    Boric Acid

    About This Product

Boric acid, also known as orthoboric acid or boracic acid, is the weak inorganic acid of boron, with formula H3BO3 and molecular weight 61.83. This grade is supplied as flakes: a colourless or white, odourless crystalline solid with a density of 1.440 g/cm3, which melts with decomposition at 160 °C (literature value). Glassmakers add it to raise heat resistance, transparency and mechanical strength and to shorten melting time in optical, heat-resistant and acid-resistant glass and in glass fibre. It is also an ingredient of enamels, ceramic glazes and pigments, a flux in metallurgy and metal welding, a component of heat- and fire-resistant fabric treatments, and a laboratory reagent for buffer solutions and chromatographic analysis. Under GB and EU CLP, boric acid carries a classification as toxic for reproduction, and it is on the REACH Candidate List of substances of very high concern, so it is offered for professional and industrial use only, not to the general public. No assay or impurity limits are published here, so agree the H3BO3 content, sulphate, chloride and iron limits and the particle size before ordering. Keep it at +5 °C to +30 °C and read the SDS before first use.
