A wound dressing manages moisture at the wound bed: too dry and healing stalls, too wet and the surrounding skin macerates. The fibre structure of the dressing is what governs that balance. This fibre composite compound is supplied as a medical grade raw material for producing dressing substrates. Absorbency and moisture vapour transmission are properties of the finished dressing construction. Manufacturing a medical device from this compound requires the manufacturer's own regulatory approvals, including an appropriate quality system such as ISO 13485 and the clinical evidence required in the target market.
