About This Product
High Extract Oil is the aromatic-rich stream rejected when heavier lube distillates are refined into base oil. To achieve a good viscosity index the distillate is washed with a selective solvent, which takes up the multi-ring aromatic, sulphur-bearing and polar molecules; once the solvent has been stripped off and recycled, what remains is a dark, viscous oil of high solvency. HEO is the heavy cut of that extract and the more aromatic of the two extract oils offered here, the other being the thinner Low Extract Oil. Its defining specification is a kinematic viscosity at 100 °C of min 12.0 cSt. That floor is what separates it from the light extract and governs how it behaves in use. A heavier oil stays where it is put: it is less volatile in the mixer, less prone to migrate to the surface of a cured article and better at holding high oil loadings in an extended polymer. In reclaiming, the same solvency and body help the oil swell vulcanised crumb so that heat and shear can break the cross-linked network down. The other limits are specific gravity max 1.10, flash point (COC) min 150 °C, sulphur max 5.6 wt % and Conradson carbon residue max 10.0 wt %. The sulphur figure is high by the standards of base oils because extraction concentrates the sulphur-bearing aromatics of the crude into this stream. Carbon residue indicates how much coke-forming material the oil holds, a point that matters when HEO is used hot, as in bitumen fluxing. At ambient temperature HEO is a heavy liquid and usually needs warming before it will pump freely. HEO extends SBR and natural rubber in tyre and general compounding, serves as the swelling and peptising oil in the reclaiming of scrap tyre rubber, and is blended into hard bitumen to soften it. Rubber Process Oil is specified on a VGC band and a pour point for tyre work; HEO is specified on minimum viscosity, sulphur and carbon residue, which makes it the usual choice where solvency and volume count for more than a tight compounding window. Indicative availability is 2,500 – 5,000 MT per month. Hazard classification for this extract is given in the SDS, and handling should follow it. Bio Green Chem supplies HEO of Pakistani origin by ISO tank, by IBC or in drums, and other packaging can be agreed. Shipments are documented lot by lot with a certificate of analysis; the HEO technical datasheet may be downloaded from the link on this page, while the SDS is issued on request.
