Hesperidin
About This Product
Hesperidin is hesperetin 7-O-rutinoside, a flavanone glycoside with the formula C28H34O15, molecular weight 610.6 and CAS number 520-26-3. It is a white to light yellow crystalline powder, odourless and tasteless, extracted from unripe citrus fruit and peel. Its INCI name is Hesperidin. In skin care hesperidin is valued as an antioxidant and for its association with capillary health, which is why it and its derivatives appear most often in eye-contour products aimed at dark circles and puffiness. Its limitation is solubility: hesperidin barely dissolves in water or in most cosmetic solvents, dissolving only in alkaline or strongly polar aprotic media. Formulators therefore either disperse it in suspensions and anhydrous systems or use derivatives made from it, such as methyl hesperidin, hesperidin methyl chalcone and glucosyl hesperidin, which are water soluble. For derivative manufacture the related flavonoids matter as much as the headline purity, so isonaringin, neohesperidin and the aglycone hesperetin are individually limited, together with heavy metals at 10 ppm. It is used in eye-contour and anti-ageing formulations, antioxidant serums and creams, and as the raw material for methyl hesperidin, hesperidin methyl chalcone and other soluble derivatives. Bio Green Chem supplies hesperidin in 90, 92 and 95 percent grades to specification on appearance, solubility, sulphated ash, loss on drying, bulk density, heavy metals, related flavonoids, total impurities and content on the dry basis, in fibre drums.
