About This Product

A compound of polylactic acid and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate), supplied as a pellet for extrusion blow moulding. Where an injection grade is built to flow, this one is built to resist flow once it has left the die, targeting melt strength and extensional stability rather than low viscosity. It is biodegradable at end of life. Blow moulding needs melt strength the injection grades do not have: the parison must hang without drawing down before the mould closes. Melt strength is resistance to extensional deformation, and it comes from long chains, a broad molecular weight distribution and branching, which together let the melt strain-harden, so a section that begins to thin under its own weight stiffens locally and pushes the deformation elsewhere. That self-levelling is what gives even walls; a linear polyester without it thins fastest where it is already thinnest, and the parison necks and drops. This compound is formulated for that, and for the wall distribution a cosmetic bottle needs to look right. Supplied FDA compliant. Chemical compatibility with the intended formulation should be confirmed by trial, as it should with any packaging resin. Supplied as a raw material for processing on the buyer's own line.
