    Anionic Polyacrylamide (APAM)

    About This Product

Anionic polyacrylamide is a polyacrylamide (CAS 9003-05-8) with a hydrolysis degree of 5–40%, which gives the chain its negative charge. The white powder has a molecular weight of 8–40 million and a content of at least 90%, and dissolves within 60 minutes. An emulsion form with the same molecular weight and hydrolysis ranges is also offered at more than 40% content, dissolving in under 10 minutes. In solution the long, negatively charged chains attach to suspended solids and link them into flocs that settle out of the water more readily. It is used to clarify industrial process water and effluent, in paper mill water systems and in mining and mineral processing, and polyacrylamide is also used in the petroleum, metallurgical and textile industries. Residual acrylamide monomer is not stated; ask for it, since acrylamide is classified as a carcinogen and its level decides where the polymer may be used. A grade for drinking-water treatment must conform to the applicable standard for polyacrylamides used in drinking water and be permitted under the UK drinking water quality regulations. The ionic type of the emulsion form is not stated, so confirm that it is anionic before ordering; packing is confirmed on enquiry.
