About This Product

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, MKP or monopotassium phosphate, has the formula KH2PO4 and CAS number 7778-77-0. It is supplied as colourless crystals or white granules, fully water-soluble, giving a mildly acidic solution around pH 4.5. Its fertiliser analysis, 0-52-34, is the reason it is specified. Most soluble fertilisers carry nitrogen, which drives vegetative growth, and that is unwanted once a crop moves from leaf production into flowering and fruiting. MKP supplies high phosphorus and high potassium with no nitrogen whatever, so a grower can push flower initiation and fruit fill without provoking further leaf growth. It also contains no chloride, which matters for chloride-sensitive crops, and no sodium, which matters in recirculating hydroponics. Its mild acidity helps keep phosphorus available in alkaline irrigation water and helps prevent precipitation in the tank. Outside agriculture it is used as the acid half of a potassium phosphate buffer and as a nutrient salt in fermentation. It is used in fertigation, hydroponics and foliar feeds, fermentation media, buffer systems and as a nutrient salt.
