About This Product
Methyl salicylate is the methyl ester of salicylic acid, registered under CAS 119-36-8. It is a liquid with the familiar odour of wintergreen, described on the data sheet as cosmetic grade and packed in 200 kg plastic drums; its shelf life, in cool and dry storage, is 24 months. No assay or physical constants are given, and these will be confirmed on enquiry. Its odour makes it a fragrance component of skin-care, aromatherapy and massage products and of shampoos and other hair care, and it is also used to flavour toothpaste and mouthwash. The data sheet lists it among raw materials for detergents as well. Methyl salicylate carries an EU harmonised classification as suspected of damaging the unborn child, and both the UK and EU cosmetics regulations restrict it through Annex III, with maximum concentrations set by product type. Check those limits for each target market, confirm that the cosmetic grade suits the finished product, and ask for the assay and a certificate of analysis before supply.
