      What is the difference between soy wax blocks, flakes and pellets?

      They are different melting grades supplied in different physical forms. Blocks melt at 42 to 46 degrees Celsius and suit containers, flakes at 48 to 52 and are the general-purpose grade, and pellets at 56 to 58 for firmer applications. Recommended pour temperatures follow the same order, from 45 to 50 degrees for blocks up to 55 to 60 for pellets.

      Why does soy wax frost and develop wet spots?

      Both are consequences of it being a triglyceride rather than a hydrocarbon. Frosting is surface crystallisation as the wax ages, and wet spots are areas where the wax has shrunk away from the container wall on cooling. Neither affects burn performance. Controlling pour temperature, pre-warming containers and cooling slowly in a draught-free area are the usual remedies, rather than an additive.

      How much fragrance can soy wax hold?

      Typically 7 to 10 percent. Above that the fragrance oil tends to separate during cooling, appearing as sweating on the surface or pooling in the container, and scent throw actually falls because the separated oil is no longer dispersed through the wax. Where a higher load is required, an emulsifier-containing soy blend is the usual route.

      Why must soy wax not be heated above 85 degrees Celsius?

      Overheating discolours it, producing a yellow or brown cast that cannot be reversed, and it can degrade the wax and affect burn quality. Because soy wax melts at well under 60 degrees, there is no process reason to exceed 85, and a thermostatically controlled melter rather than direct heat is the appropriate equipment.
