Guar gum is a natural galactomannan polymer derived from guar beans. In industrial grades it is selected for rapid hydration, high viscosity build, water retention and compatibility with the buyer's process conditions rather than for food-additive compliance. Industrial guar gum powder is used where a small addition has to change the behaviour of a water-based system. In oilfield fluids it helps build viscosity for drilling muds, stimulation fluids, shale-gas fracturing, polymer flooding, lost-circulation control and plugging applications. In paper production it supports surface strength, sheet formation, bonding, folding strength and finishing. In textile sizing and finishing it gives film-forming, thickening and print-support properties. It is also used as a flocculation aid in mining and metallurgical separation, and as a thickener or stabiliser in selected adhesives, coatings, fire-fighting foams, toiletries and liquid-soap systems. Grade choice depends on the target viscosity, mesh size, hydration profile, insoluble matter, moisture, ash, pH, microbiology where relevant, and any application-specific additive limits. A grade designed for oilfield hydration may not be the right choice for paper, textile or personal-care processing, so the intended use should be stated clearly at enquiry stage.
